An excellent day of diving. There was a small south swell. The surface current was very strong. Visibility was excellent about 40 feet. Water temperature was warm.
Dave and I arrived at the mall and Rich was there waiting for us. A few new people came and were introduced to the group. Since the tide was low and we wanted
good visibility, we went to Crescent Bay.
A few good sized waves were hitting the beach caused by the south swell, but it wasn't enough to stop us. We suited up and headed into the water. A few big
waves hit the beach when I was there but I waited it out and ran past the surf zone and swam out to join the group. The group was far from the drop down point. A
current moved them down the coast and they had to swim to the drop down point again. We quickly dropped down so we wouldn't drift down the coast again.
It seemed like we were a bit far from the reef but we came up to it and were in the middle of the reef. We swam up and over the reef and the visibility was excellent.
We were able to see parts of the reef that we usually don't see. While in the shallow section, I heard the sound of jet ski and looked up and it past over my head
with only 10 feet to spare. I decided to go deeper in case another jet ski was going to pass us by.
I swam over to the far side and there I saw a few go further to another section of the reef that we didn't know existed. In the deep water, a section of the reef
continued into the deeper water. A large reef that has a large high mount.
I spent quite a bit of exploring that section of the reef and used up more air being that deep. It was time to come back. I swam up and over the reef and back down
and over to the inner reef. I made my way to the shore and ascended in 8 feet of water. Most of the group was around me and we exited the water without any
We packed up our gear and headed to Husky Boy's for food and conversation. We all loved the excellent visibility, seeing the reef with such clarity. The fish life is
very abundant on the reef with many large California Sheep Head fish. Others saw Moray Eels, lobsters, and Octopus.
Diving!! DO IT!! Safely...
