Good morning Divers!!!
Current scuba diving conditions in Laguna Beach. Well, it's bad out there. The S swell just won't leave us alone, Laguna is getting nailed right now, surf 4-6+ feet. Of course that means viz sucks at 5 feet or less. Plus if that isn't enough, you should contact the LBLG's to see if the beach is open, 949.494.6573 (Recording) they will close the beach to diving in conditions such as this.

I'd like to share a story sent to me from John, who went to Catalina last w/e.
It definitely solidifies the #1 rule of diving "Never Diver Alone".
We were diving on Saturday at the dive park behind the Casino and there was a certification class taking place. I'm sure you're familiar with the diver park and the gathering spot for all the classes for the open water dives. I would say the depth is about 30 feet. My buddies and I were arriving near the dive park when we noticed some commotion. They had pulled a diver out of the water who may have suffered a heart attack while diving. His was unconscious and wasn't breathing when they pulled him out of the water and he was purple in color. The paramedics arrived and were treating the diver who slowly started breathing again but he wasn't responsive. They rushed him to the hospital but I don't know what the status of his condition is since then. This really drives home the point of never diving alone because if that was the case with this gentleman he would have never made it out of the water. He was an older man, I would say in his late 50s or early 60s and I truly hope that they treated him in time to make a full recovery but I don't know the outcome.
John makes a good point about having a buddy, yes, it is not required, but a good idea.

Ruth let me know that the u/w park in Avalon has 10-15 feet of viz, so it sucks there too. Thanks Ruth.

Our plans for tomorrow are canceled, SURPRISE!!! Well, what to do since we are not diving??? How about The Scuba Show in Long Beach?? Yep, that time of the year again when all of the Scuba manufacturers, some dive shops and vacation info is all in one place. Check it out. Thanks Dale for reminding me.

We'll be looking forward to next Saturday, so stay tuned.

Diving!! DO IT!! Safely...
