Good morning Divers!!!|

Time: 41 min
Max Dept: 53ft

Visibility: 40 feet
Conditions: Salt water, shore dive, low tide, small west swell waves, but big at times, heavy surge, current.
Dive Buddies: Nick. Total 14.
The west swell has been around all week long and we had a window of opportunity to do a dive while it was "small". There were a whole bunch of new people that I
haven't dove with before mostly because I've been on vacation. It was a good day of diving with clear water, but some big waves from the west did hit the beach.
I got to the mall and was introduced to the new people. I was thinking that Crescent Bay would be the most protected after Shaw's Cove from the West Swells. So
at 7:45, we raced down to Crescent Bay. We saw a few big waves hit the beach, but there was a long time between sets so we could get in if we timed it right.
We suited up and swam to the drop down point. A strong current was pushing us down the coast so we had to continually swim up the coast to maintain our
position. We dropped down and the visibility was excellent. I was able to see everyone and we waited on the bottom for all to catch up with us. Once together we
swam to the reef.
Checking my compass and making sure we were on track, we came to the end of the reef which looks like an imposing wall. We swam up to the top and headed
slowly to the other side of the reef. We were able to see a lot of the reef and even hovered over the reef keeping it 10 feet from us. We were able to see all the rock
formations and the crevices that the reef has. A saw a school of yellow tail towards the other end and I think I got some video of it.
One of the divers signaled he was at the half way point of his air and so we made our way back to shore swimming along the inner reef. The current was strong and
swimming back was a little hard.
At around 10 feet, it was time to come up on the surface and check out the waves. A few big waves were hitting the beach and we had to time our exits. When the
lull between sets came, I quickly got out and waited on the shore for a few others to arrive.
After packing up our gear, off to Husky Boy's we went for food and conversation. An excellent day of diving although you had to be careful of the high surf from the
west. But since there was a long period between sets, it was possible to get in and out without any problems.
Diving!! DO IT!! Safely...
