Good morning Divers!!!|
Begin Time: 9:00 am
Time: 42 min
Max Dept: 41ft
Temp: 56-58 F
Visibility: 30 feet
Conditions: Salt water, shore dive, high tide, small west swell waves, but big at times, surge.
Dive Buddies: Rick. Total 18.
The west swell is still around and so we get a few big waves, but not enough to stop us from diving. The group dove Heisler Park last week and it was very good so
Rich decided on Heisler Park again because he was going to be diving with us. Good visibility with new kelp growing and lots of fish.
Rich picked me up at McDonald's and took me the rest of the way to the mall, our meeting place. There we met up with everyone and there weren't any new divers,
but a few people haven't dove for awhile came. We discussed the dive conditions and Rich wanted to go to Heisler Park to see how the kelp is doing.
We got to Heisler Park and a few big waves hit the beach, but there was a lot of time between sets. We suited up and swam out to the drop down point which is
getting further and further from shore. We are now swimming about as far out as Deadman's Reef!
We dropped on down the visibility was really good and so we were able to keep an eye out for everyone. I swam into the kelp forest and I was amazed at the kelp
going all the way to the surface and creating a canopy. The kelp disappeared for a year and it's coming back. I saw a harbor seal in the kelp and swam towards it. It
went up the surface and I lost site of it. Later I saw it again and it stayed away; never getting close and staying a good distance away from me. I saw an army of CA
Sheep Head fish swimming by. I've never seen 8-10 of them swimming by. The Garibaldi's were nesting and making popping sounds and fighting off the other
Garibaldi fish. After the dive we heard that another section of the group got to see a small Mako shark swimming by. It got scared and left in a hurry.
After the dive we went over to Husky Boy's for food and conversation. It was a good day of diving and if you missed out, you really missed out. The good conditions
that we are having will continue through December. So try and make every Saturday dive with us while you can.
Diving!! DO IT!! Safely...
