Good morning Divers!!!|
Begin Time: 8:53 am
Time: 53 min
Max Dept: 55 ft
Temp: 63-67 F
Visibility: 30 feet
Conditions: Salt water, shore dive, High tide, waves, surge.
Dive Buddies: Chuck. Total 16.
We had some drizzle a few days before the dive and we wondered if the county was going to issue a rain advisory. And it never came. So we were cleared to do a
dive. The surf was small, but wind chop was stirring up the ocean. But the visibility didn't suffer. We have 30 or more and this site is tough to get that good.
I met up with everyone at the mall and there weren't any new people. Some haven't been around in a long time. Chuck wanted to go to Mountain because he has
been there in years. I haven't been there in years either. The group did go a few months ago but I had to do beach patrol because my collar bone was broken. We
got to the site and check it out. The tide was coming in and the water was coming up to the stairs. There was plenty of sand and so the rocks below were not
We suited up and swam out to the drop down point. The visibility was excellent when we dropped down and we started the dive. I didn't see the seal that greeted
the group and I started down the reefs looking for something to video.
We came up to a kelp forest and it was dark inside. I found some over hangs and got some video there. I continued swimming along seeing plenty of male CA
sheep heads. They were big. Also plenty of female CA Sheep Heads too. Lots of Garibaldi protecting their nests; I could hear them popping telling over fish to back
I started to head back and I thought I was going in the right direction. Maybe I covered more territory than I thought. When I ascended close to shore, I didn't
recognize where I was. The sun was very bright so I couldn't see east and looking west, it didn't look right to me. I was in front of some stairs so I knew I could get
out. When I got on shore, I asked a girl walking by where I was. She didn't know the names of the streets because she is vacationing here. I walked up the stairs
and at PCH, I was at the Jack in the Box. I was 3 blocks down from where we entered the water. I haven't dove this spot in 2 years so I was totally out of whack. I
went back to where we parked and then walked down to the beach where Rich and Chuck were waiting for me. They were surprised that I missed the exit point so
After packing up, we went to Husky Boys for food and conversation. It was there that 6 of the divers mentioned the seal. It was an excellent dive and those that
missed it really missed out. The good conditions are here and you need to see what Laguna can offer when it's this good.
Diving!! DO IT!! Safely...
