There was a west swell hitting the beaches this weekend, but we had Catalina blocking most of it. Some large waves came in, but most of the time, the waves were
small. A cold morning, but it warmed up quickly. The green tint to the water was gone this week which was nice.
Rich and I arrived at the mall and only 7 people showed up. Most probably thought the conditions were not going to be good and skipped the dive. Since we had
high surf throughout the week, we decided on Crescent Bay and dive Deadman's Reef like we did last week. But we had a high tide this week.
We arrived at the dive site and there were some small waves, but some big ones did hit the beach. We suited up and swam out to the drop down point.
We dropped on down and headed to the reef. We swam up to it and then east ascending so we were not at the bottom of the reef but more along the top. We swam
into the canyons and I took video. I moved around and found a lobster under a rock. He wasn't hiding out at all. I moved to a different spot and got video of the
Garibaldi "popping" at the sheep head. The Garibaldi are protecting their nests and making it clear, no one is to approach their nests. In another corner, I must
have scared a horn shark and it same in front of me getting away from all of us divers.
We headed back and swam to the inner reef and made a leisurely swim along it making our way to shore. I didn't see anything to video so it remained off for the
swim back to shore. Around 8 feet of water, we popped up and swam the rest of the way to shore and got out without any problems.
After packing our gear we headed over to Husky Boy's for food and conversation. We ran into a few other divers and they dove Heisler Park and they reported
better visibility. Still, we had a good dive at Crescent Bay and it was better than the previous week.
Diving!! DO IT!! Safely...
