Boat Canyon gets it's name from the number of "Cats" sitting on shore. Now I've never seen one launched from here, but they are here for a reason.Boat Canyon is the next Cove going down the coast from Shaw's right next to Diver's Cove. Be sure you totally understand the conditions for both Boat Canyon & Diver's Cove if you are doing "Game collecting", because EVERYTHING is protected in Diver's Cove and it is OK to take game from Boat Canyon. This may actually seem "Silly" once you realize just "How close" these 2 dive sites are. There are parking meters at the top of Divers' Cove and the steps to each cove are one driveway apart. But this makes a BIG difference to the guys with the Department of Fish & Game, and they are Watching you as you exit both of these areas. So IF you have GAME and you have a valid DFG license, exit at Boat Canyon, you will be at least $500 poorer if you don't know these rules. I guess if you don't have a license, it probably doesn't matter either way and you can say bye-bye to about $1000 in that case.
Here is a shot of "Fisherman's Cove" or Boat Canyon. I like the wave "Action" in this picture, it shows how the water reacts to the solid rock. |

Diving here means one thing. High tide is best. Boat Canyon is mainly a rock entry exit and you should go with someone who has made this dive before if you haven't been here before. There is a "Trick" to getting around the rocks and those who are experienced with this can help, always ASK.
In 2000, Fisherman's Cove was where one of the two deaths occurred in Laguna Beach, dive here when conditions are favorable.
Once in the water, Diver's Cove & Boat Canyon seem like "One place" and you might not realize you have actually moved to "Diver's", just remember WHO can be watching you. Another "Word to the wise"...
